Hi , another Thursday rolls around and we find ourselves in October. We are at that tricky stage of house moving , not quite there, waiting to exchange contracts , hoping we'll be in for Christmas !!
Boxes everywhere, and deciding what to take and what to keep, being distracted by objects we haven't seen in years in the back of cupboards ....
Meanwhile I can still find sanctuary in my studio, and in the surrounding Devon countryside ,
a coffee with a dear friend , and the joy of a sunny October day...( surely it's not October already)
So today I will show you how I painted a kingfisher
I first drew the bird
Then I spray the paper around the bird with lots of water
And create lots of puddles of paint to paint out of.
Then I went wild, splattering and sploshing paint around the bird , paying attention to where the colours correspond to the bird. Lovely bright Indian Yellow, Phthalo Blue and Cadmium orange
Now leave everything to dry
Have a cuppa
I then went on to paint in the details, trying to create the order from the chaos I had created
Beak and eye
Wings
Then the body and the tail
Let the watercolour merge into the splashes left on the paper
So now I have a glorious kingfisher created out of chaos, if only life could be that simple.
